About a week ago we had a tractor do some work to improve drainage during the rainy season. The work was planned to channel the water into one location where we built a detention pond.
The detention pond will hold excess water and allow the sediment to drop to the bottom of the pond. When the clean water leaves the pond, it will follow a channel into the forest. Water that remains in the pond will gradually be absorbed by the earth and contribute to restoration of the area.
In this way the detention pond captures and stores excess stormwater runoff. This helps to prevent erosion problems on our Lua do Arco-íris property and downstream areas. It also helps to keep our water clean and pure throughout the year.
